Morgan's letter to Ellen Emerson White for Voyage of the Great Titanic &
Akie's letter to the author Paul Jennings for Unbearable

January 2, 1999

Dear Ellen Emerson White,

For my January book report I chose to read your book Voyage on the Great Titanic. I absolutely loved it. My favorite part was when the main charactor had arrived in New York and was sleeping on the bench when her brother William came up and tapped her on the shoulder. It made me cry I was so happy he found her. It was very sad that Robert had to die.

I love the way you choose to make a diary of a 3rd class girl traveling in first class on the Titanic. The way you made her seem so surprised when she first heard she was invited to be Mrs. Carstairs companion on the Titanic made me want to keep reading and find out what happened.

In the timeline you made, it said that a man named Morgan Rorbetson had written a book earlier about a steamer called the Titan that hits an ice berg and sinks and there are not enough life boats and more than half the passengers die. How could he have predicted such a thing?

The saddest part is when her mother died in Europe and she and William had to live on the streets. Then she became very ill and William said he would take her to a charity orphanage for girls. But she wouldn't go. Then William left her on the steps of the orphanage and left for America.

After reading the historical note, it made me understand the book so much more. I felt as if I had really been there.

I was wondering if you have written any the other Dear America books? If you have I would like to know so I could read it or them.

I have started reading some Dear America books before, but yours really made me want to keep reading.

Sincerely,

Morgan

Dear Paul Jennings,

Hello, my name is Akie and I live in Amsterdam, Holland. I have read your books Undone, Uncovered, Unbelievable, Unreal , Uncanny, Unbearable and Unmentionable . What I think about your books is probably what everyone else thinks about your books---they are very hilarious, and very wierd. Some are sad and some have all kinds of emotions.

One of the stories I think are the best is "The Buske"r from Unbelievable. It's very sad and imaginative I thought it was very sad when Tiny died and very selfish of the Busker to try to be the center of attention. The best weird story, I think, is "Spaghetti Pig-Out". (I don't remember which book it was from). It's really weird, that remote control! The most hilarious story is "A Mouthful". It was flinny when the dad ate the poop!

Some other stories I think are fantastic are "Frozen Stiff", "Lucky Lips", "Picked Bones", "The Gum Leaf War" and "The Ex Poser".

I really like how you make your endings mysterious, and how you put different emotions in each story. I think you are one of the best authors on this planet, and since I want to be an author too, you are an excellent example. Please continue to write the books in the series.

From One of Your Big Fans,

Akie
