Michika's description: Our Probability Game: Rules
1. Pick 2 dolls
2. I will put them behind the curtains
3. You have to guess where one of the dolls went
The chances of winning are 50%.
This project worked out very well and I am very happy about it. All of the little kids seemed to like our game because they kept coming back when their teacher wasn't looking. And I was glad that they all understood what they wree supposed to do for this game. In the beginning 4th graders came. I was surprised that even THEY enjoyed it because we thought that the older kids would think it was too childish for them. The busiest time was when all the little kids came along. Some of them didn't talk at all! I spoke to a Japanese child in Japanese but he didn't say anything, so in the end his teacher had to do it.
A lot more people won than we thought so we saw a lot of smiley faces. The little kids were able to see behind the curtains (they were the perfect height) so most of them got what they wanted. This project was a lot of fun and I learned a lot of new things that I didn't know before. I would definitely think it is a good idea for this year's 4th grade to do it next year.
Midori's description:
My game was made out of a box which had 4 windows. You had to choose 2
dolls out of 4 and then we hid them behind the windows. You then had to
choose one of the windows and if you got one of the dolls you'd chosen
you won the game.
The probability of winning this game is 50%.
At first I was doing the writing (counting how many students won and
lost) but some of the students put their hands into the box and saw what
was behind the windows and picked it up. Some of the 4th graders also
came to take the stickers because they hadn't got any!
Later on in the game I was trying to explain how to play it, especially
to the little ones because some didn't speak at all. In the last past I
started wishing tht it would be finished because I had a backache
reaching over and into the box and a headache. The 5th graders helped
me because they were tall, so I didn't have to bend down and hurt my
back.
I think I had a good time, but the bad thing was that I didn't get to
play the other games.
