Buddhism in China

Buddhism was started in the first century AD, when Buddhas were brought back to China from India. They were brought back by Prince Siddhartha Gautama in 560 BC. When he was 29, he decided to leave China and travel through India. Siddhartha was very unhappy with his life alithough he was very wealthy. He told people on his way that the way to find truth was to meditate and be very calm about all things.

Buddhism was very popular in China from the first century AD, to the Eighth Century AD. Emperor Mingdi made his official, Cai Yin, go to Central Asia to learn more about Buddhism. Cai Yin had a dream about a Golden Buddha and told some people about it. They told him that it was the Buddha, The God of the West. Re rode back to the capital city Luoyang on a white horse with images of the Buddhas, so a temple was built for them called" The White Rorse Temple." Here is a picture of Budda.

The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China was built in the year 220 BC. It was mostly built in the Ch'in Dynasty. It stretches for 2400 kilometers and is about eight meters high along the wall. Where the look-out towers are, it is 12 meters high. In the look-out towers if the Chinese saw people coming like armies, they would set up a beacon and everyone would get ready. The Great Wall of China was wide enough to hold five horses side by side. The Great Wall is the only known man-made structure to be seen by spaceships and satellites. This is a drawing of the Great Wall. The Great Wall of China was used to protect China from thearmies of the north.
