Designing Spaces

by Chris & Hannah

Introduction:

Welcome to Hannah's and Chris's building project. We have designed a house for you to see. lf you would like to build our house we have instructions for you and we also have put in the same information about different kinds of houses in other parts of the world. We also have design specifications to show you some things you need.

Houses in Different Climates

Log Cabins

Log cabins are one of the earliest houses ever made in the US. They were built when European settlers came to North America The walls and roof of these houses were made from sawed timber.

Mud Houses

Mud homes of New Mexico are traditional and common. The first bricks which were made were out of clay and water and they would be left in the sun to dry. When the bricks are laid cardfully, they are called bonds.

Chalets

Chalets have sloping roofs to keep the people inside warm. Because of snow on the roof little or no air can get inside.

Homes of the Future

In the future people will have better houses than we. We will need less fuel to produce electricity and the wind will generate the electricity. The sun's rays will also produce energy for the homes of tomorrow and it will be enough to power computers and control windows and heating systems.
