Building our House

Step By Step Instructions:

To build our house , the following steps should be taken. They must be completed in the order written down below. Steps ~ through to 6 need you to cut out all the shapes.

Step 1. Draw a hexagon with sides 4.5cm in length. Now cut out.

Step 2. Draw 2 triangles with sides 4cm in length. Now cut out.

Step 3. Now cut out the following shape. One side must be 8.5cm in length. The opposite side should be 4cm in length. These 2 sides must be joined with lines 4cm in length. Note: the above shapes make up the base of our house. To join the shapes use cellotape. Join the hexagon to the shapes made in step 3. The 2 triangles can now be added to these shapes.

Step 4. Making the walls. This needs 2 rectangles with sides 8.5cm x 4cm. Six squares are needed with sides 4cm.

To join these shapes, use cellotape again. The hexagon should be joined on 4 sides with 4 squares. The 2 rectangles can then be joined on. These should be joined to the shape made in step 3 as part of the base. Joining onto the 2 rectangles should be 2 more squares. One should be fixed while the other is allowed to swing. This will be the main door into the house.

Step 5. Making the inside rooms. The inside is what is called an open plan, but there is a main bedroom. This is made up of 2 squares with sides of 4cm and a triangle with sides of 4cm in length. Cellotape these shapes together fixing it to one of the rectangular walls. One of the squares should also be stuck to the wall next to the doorway. This will make a type of passage way.

The house looks like a diamond and is designed for cold and snowy climates. It could be located in Canada.

Step 6. We are now going to make the roof This needs another hexagon the same size as in step ~. Draw 4 triangles also the same size as in step 1. Now draw 2 parallelograms with sides 4.5cm and 3.5cm.

To join these shapes, stick the parallelograms to the hexagon and then arrange the remaining triangles to form part of a hexagon. Stick together and then fasten to your walls. This is your house completed.

Design Specifications

Appearance

Our home looks like a diamond with two lines. The house has a black roof and the house is made of bricks. There are two rooms, two bathrooms and two closets and a dining room.

Climate

The house is designed for a cold and snowy climate. When snow collects on the roof, no air can get in and the house will stay warm. Our house could be located in Canada.

Design Layout

We have used hexagons, triangles, squares and rectangles. There are six triangles, two hexagons, four squares, and two rectanges. Our house has six vertices and two parallel faces.
