Introduction
In our class, we have been studying about 3D shapes and now we have made houses from different parts of the world out of 3D shapes. We had to make the house so it wouldn't leak and it would have to be in the right shape acording to the climate. So for example if it was a very rainy country, you would probably have a sloping roof so the rain doesn't collect on the top of the house. If you it was very hot, you would probably have small windows so you don't get too much sunshine in the house so your house stays cool.

Houses in Different Climates
Usually in hot and wet climates, houses like the ones in Indonesia usally have small windows so not a lot of sunlight can come in the house. They do this because if sunlight did come in the house, the house would get very warm. They also have stilts because sometimes there are tropical rainforests nearby and it can rain so much that it causes floods. If the house has stilts it will be above ground so the water son't be able to drain into your house.
Wealthy people can afford to live in houses called "Tongkanons". They have a roof shaped like a huge saddle and they are decorated with wood carvings of bulls on both sides of the house.
People who are surrounded by forests sometimes cut down trees and build log cabins. That way it is also much cheaper for the person who lives in it. If you look at lumberjacks, many of them who live in the forest make their cabins out of wood.
You can find lot's of these log cabins at the northern Canada, parts of Russia and northern Scandinavia.

Houses in Places with Tornados & Earthquakes
Tornados. In places where there are tornadoes there are houses that have a t storm cellar where people can go to be safe. There are two doors on the surface which can only be locked from the inside. Some people make sure that they have some water and some supplies in case the disaster lasts for a long time. These storm cellars are usually located either at the side of the house or right next to the main entrance. It is better if they are closer to the entrances so you can get into the storm cellar very quickly.
Earthquakes In many places where there are earthquakes, people try not to build very tall buildings. If there are high buildings and suddenly you get an earthquake, the buildings will tip over and hit all the people under it and people might die.
