[Ancient Egypt: Project 2] [History 1 2 3] [Geography 1] [Religion 1 [Daily Life 1 2 3 ] Pharaohs
The ancient Egyptian people had many kings called the Pharaohs. There were 76 pharaohs in the history of Egypt. All the Pharaohs had one thing in common, which they always made big statues to represent how mighty they are, so the Pharaoh with the biggest statue meant that the Pharaoh was really mighty. When the Pharaoh died there was a funeral which lasted for a month. After the funeral he was put in a mummy. The mummy was then put in a tomb. Sixty-two tombs of Pharaohs were found in The Valley of the Kings. Cleopatra
Cleopatra was an ill fated queen of Egypt who dated back to 51-3O BC. She had many love affairs with many people. Cleopatra, or should I say Cleopatra VII, was the daughter of Ptolemy Auletes, King of Egypt. On her father's death in 51 BC Cleopatra was only 17 years old, and her bother Ptolemy XII, a child of 12 years, succeeded jointly to the throne of Egypt, on the condition that they should marry. In the third year Ptolemy XI , encouraged by his advisers, assumed sole control of the government and he drove poor Cleopatra into exile. She then gathered an army in Syria but was unable to assert her claim until she returned to Alexandria where Julius Caesar become her lover. He was time pressured against the Egyptians but he was rewarded when in 47 BC Ptolemy Xll was killed. Caesar then claimed that Cleopatra would become Queen once again. Cleopatra was forced into marry her brother who then was only 11 years old. After settling a good agreement with the government. Cleopatra then went to Rome were she lived as Caesar's mistress. She then gave birth to a son, Cesarean. Because Cleopatra hesitated to take sides in the civil war following Caesar's death, Mark Anthony summed her to meet him. She then fell in love with him and they returned to Egypt together. After living with Cleopatra for some time he left her and went back to Rome. Where he married. After Anthony's departure Cleopatra gave birth to twins. In 36 BC Anthony asked for Cleopatra. Then they had another child. Anthony's then wife declared war on him and Cleopatra. Anthony then divorced Octavian his wife. When Octavain came looking for Cleopatra and Anthony they fled to Alexandria. At the arrival of Octavian Anthony sent out a false report that queen had committed suicide. Hearing that Octavian intended to celebrate in Rome because of the false death of Cleopatra. Cleopatra then really did kill herself probably with poison, or by a bite of an asp. URL: http://www.best.com/~swanson/egypt/egypt2.html Materials by Ms Hos-McGrane's Grade 6 Class Graphics by L.
