[Ancient Egypt: Project 2] [History 1 2 3] [Geography 1] [Religion 1 [Daily Life 1 2 3 ] Magic and MedicineThe gods and the Pharaohs of Egypt played very little part in the ancient Egyptian's life. The people of Egypt then turned to magic and medicine. The Egyptians had great medical skills; they could cure many different kinds of things. They use both magic and medicine to help people. The Egyptians believed that a worm-like disease would invade the body. Letters could be written on pots to scare away the evil spirits and put in tombs in case they thought the sprit was angry or disturbed.
Plants played an important part in both magic and medicine. A valuable plant was the juniper- berry which were thought to be important enough that they were transported all over the country. Garlic was also used for medical properties still valued in some parts in the world today. Lotus was an important flower to the Egyptians; they decorated a lot of their temples and many of their belongings with images of Lotus flowers. The magical knife was thought to be of great power. It is a combination of all creatures that give this knife power.
On the papyrus calendars the days were mostly written in black, but the days that were written in red bought bad luck. The ones that were written in black were good luck. Tawert was the goddess of child birth. She could look mean sometimes but that was to scare away any of the bad sprits that wanted to harm the new born children. Charms also made an important part in magic and they were often worn around the necks, or worn around the arm. They were supposed to warn away any bad sprits and keep the owner away from danger.
