In my country the housing is all the same but it is different. This means that everyone has the same kind of house (a cottage) and when people are moving into a house they get to design their own house from inside to out. The government gives them a certain budget, according to how big the house is, and with this money they have to design how they want it. If there is money over they give it back and if they don't have enough they pay for the rest themselves. The richer people on my island tend to just buy land and build on it themselves. This costs a lot of money so most people don't tend to do it.
