Hello and welcome to Aphy’s' weather room on the island of Aphrodite. I am Diana Cook and today it is Wednesday --the 15th of July 1996. On the island of Aphrodite the temperatures are rising fast. In the heat of July, as you can see, there is a massive warm front coming over from the West and East reaching all the way down to the South of island. To the South it is not as warm; there is a few thunder storms and rain is on its way. The cold front covers most of the southern areas like Bwhale. Towards the North, there is sunshine in Saint Ashleigh and the temperate is around 30 degrees. The island capital is not far away from that with 28 degrees. There will be a few showers on the way but nothing to worry about. The sky will clear and the sun will come out. The average temperate on the island ranges between 30 degrees to the lowest 22 further south. This was Diana Cook reporting from the Aphy weather room back to you Melissa.

On my island there are many laws. Children who are 5 years old must go to school or their parents will be fined a sum of 500 palms. All of the schools must be of top quality no peeling paper or paint coming off. It must be a safe place and a pleasant environment for children to work and play in. If you have committed a crime you must go to jail. There are 3 courts on my island with judges and lawyer. Lawyers and other professional people must be qualified for their job. All teachers must be qualified and will be tested to see that they can do the job. Children under 16 may not smoke and drink alcohol and shopkeepers may not allow them to buy the drinks or cigarettes. No one on my island is allowed to take drugs. The shopkeeper will be fined if they sell the alcohol to the children. Every person must be ruled fairly and will be. The jails must be clean enough for people to stay in them.

There are many holidays on my island. There is Remembrance Day which is on the 9th of July (to remember all the children and adults that died in the Second World War) . It is celebrated like this. There is a graveyard on my island which is for the people who died in the war. The inhabitants make a wreath of flowers and put one on every grave, then they have four minutes of silence and a prayer is said You also have all the festivals. You have the Summer Festival to remember "the gods". Cveryone dresses up as a god and dances all day and night then they have a feast of food from Aphrodite. The purpose of this holiday is to pray to the gods for all the food that they have given them. Then you also have the 3rd of December which is when you make a mask of the devil and burn it at night. You eat all sorts of food that it traditional and finally you have fireworks. You also have all the public holidays which the children and adults at work both celebrate. Finally, there are summer, winter, and autumn vacations.

All of the school must fully equipped the teachers must be qualified for the job. A school day is from 9 o'clock until 2:30 in the afternoon. The children have Winter, Summer, and Autumn for vacation (including all the other little holidays.) The children must go to school before the age of 5 years. A school year is 7 months long. You must leave school at 16 years old and then you have to go to collage. There is three different colleges on my island all of them are very good. You can study anything. There cannot be more them 18 people in one class. There is two 3rd grades and two 4th grades etc. There are two teachers in every class. No bullying and teasing is allowed in any of the schools and the children who have done this will be sent to a camp were they must learn not to bully children. No drugs, alcohol and cigarettes are allowed in any of the schools. There are public and private schools on the island of Aphrodite. You do not have to pay for the public schools; they are paid for by the government. The private schools must be paid for by the parents of the child.

The President lives in the capital city of Aph. He/she will remain President for five years and every five years they must run for office or they can be elected again. My citizens may vote (women as well) although you must be over sixteen to vote for the president. Everyone on the island gets a paper and you tick the name of the person who you want and you put the paper in the box marked 'vote'. If you would like to become President you must follow certain rules. You must be able to make speeches in public, speak loudly and clear, respect the citizens and be able to rule a country and listen to its people's ideas.

There are several different kinds of ferry services. There is the ferry which goes to Europe and Asia which leaves every 3 weeks at the Commercial Harbour near the towns center Aph. There is also the ferry that takes you around the island these ferry must make sure they have had a check to see that there boat is fit enough to travel the seas. The ferry leaving that goes around the island leave every 2 to 3 depending on what route you want and what boat you want. the ferry are very comforting and they serves lunch dinner and Breakfast. On the ferry crossing you can see the whales and dolphins as well as the seals on the white sandy beaches. The ferry crossing can be quite noisy and bumpy at times but are a lot of fun and will be enjoyed. The ferry will crossed you around 60 palms that is if you take the one around the island. The One to Asia and Europe will depend on where is in Asia and Europe you would like.
