Indonesia

We got off the plane and went straight to the hotel in Jakarta. It was so noisy that we could hardly even hear ourselves think. We couldn't stand it any longer, so we cancelled our hotel reservations and took a plane straight to Bali (one of the islands of Indonesia).

When we got to Bali we were very pleased to find peace and quiet again. We woke up the next morning to find a little bowl of flowers and rice. We learned from the warm and friendly people that it was an offering to keep away evil spirits. Local craftspeople showed us the famous Indonesian puppets which they had carved. Before leaving for Australia, we feasted on a traditional Indonesian dinner of rice with many spicy small snacks. This reminded us of The Netherlands with all its "rijstafel" restaurants.
